Lyrics: Songs That Begin With "W-Z"
-W-
Wayfaring Stranger - J.D. Sumner and the Stamps Quartet
NOTE: The way I play this song is very much like "Stairway to Heaven" by Led Zeppelin, chord-wise.
What I do is start the song in A-minor at the fifth fret, then lower the root note (A) a half step every time, so
that by the end of the line I am playing a D9th chord. Then I do exactly the same thing with the D minor chord,
lowering the "D" note a half step at a time, until I wind up with a G9th chord, then going back to the A minor
for line 3. On the fourth line I add the F Major 7th, then the E7 turnaround chord, then back to A minor.
I also modulate up one tone, starting the second verse in B minor, using the same type chord
progressions, then, for the third verse, I move to D minor, and still keep the same chord progressions.
Instead of ending the song with a "D minor" chord, though, I use a D minor+2 chord. (A very easy chord
to make, just make "Open D" chord, but don't note anything on the little E string, let the open E "ring".)
Sounds much more dramatic, and a little "haunting"in my opinion.

Whenever storm clouds gather
We call on Him to light our darkest day
Why must it be that only when we're lonely
And hopes are dim, we call on Him
To count our blessings and thank Him while we may
We ask of Him a reason to go on
When our cup of joy becomes a cup of sorrow
Filled to the brim, we call on Him
To count our blessings and thank Him while we may
Thank you, Lord, for saving my soul
Thank you, Lord, for making me whole,
Thank you, Lord, for giving to me
Thy great salvation, so full and free....
The stars shall applaud Him with thunders of praise.
The sweet light in His eyes shall enhance those awaiting,
and we shall behold Him, face to face.

Chorus:
We shall behold Him.

When God dips His love in my heart

The lame man lay by the pool of Bethesda
With no one to help him in.
So when Jesus came along, how could that man know
He'd met life's truest friend.
The Master said "Son, would you be made whole?"
And it wasn't just idle talk
Jesus said "It's enoughj" and he leaped and walked.
********************************
CHORUS:(Twice)
********************************
With my head bowed low
In the darkness as black as the sea
And my heart felt alone and I cried oh Lord
Don't hide your face from me
With great riches to call my own
But I don't know a thing
In this whole wide world
That's worse than being alone
Come here to the great unknown
Where no one stands alone
Where no one stands alone
Came to dwell among the lowly such as I
To suffer shame and such disgrace
On Mount Calvary take my place
Then I ask myself this question
Who Am I
********************************
CHORUS:(Twice)
Who am I that the King would live and die for
Who am I that He would pray "Not my will, Thine, Lord"
The answer I may never know
Why He ever loved me so
That to an old rugged cross He'd go
For who am I?
********************************
When I'm reminded of His words, "I'll leave you never
If you'll be true I'll give to you life forever
Oh I wonder what I could have done
To deserve God's only Son
To fight my battles until they're won
For who am I?
********************************
CHORUS:(Twice)
********************************
I shall reach when the sun goeth down
When through wonderful grace by my Savior I stand
Will there be any stars in my crown
********************************
CHORUS:(Twice)
Will there be any stars, any stars in my crown
When at evening the sun goeth down
When I wake with the blest in those mansions of rest
Will there be any stars in my crown
********************************
In the strength of the Lord let me labor and pray
Let me watch as a winner of souls
That bright stars may be mine in the glorious day
When His praise like the sea billow rolls
********************************
CHORUS:(Twice)
********************************
O what joy it will be when His face I behold
Living gems at His feet to lay down
It would sweeten my bliss in the city of gold
Should there be any stars in my crown
********************************
CHORUS:
********************************
They said I would not last
They said I'd never get away
From all the sin in my past
They said I would not last a day
They said I'd be right back
But here I am still with you Lord
And I wonder where they're at!
**************************
CHORUS:
You and me Jesus
We sure fooled them all
They just thought they knew for sure
That I was gonna fall
I'm sure far from perfect
As you can plainly see
But after all these years, Oh Lord
It's still you and me
**************************
My friends they all did leave me
They hung me out to dry
Sometimes I get so lonesome, Lord
I just hang my head and cry
I guess they thought they'd show me
And I guess they've had their fun
But it really doesn't matter much
'Cause you're still number one
********************************
CHORUS:(Twice)
********************************
You can't be a beacon if your light don't shine
You can't be a beacon if your light don't shine
There's a little light in all of us by God's design
But you can't be a beacon if your light don't shine
*******************************
How can you ask for truth when you do not truthful live
How can you ask forgiveness when you don't forgive
I don't mean to bring you down or speak to you unkind
But you can't be a beacon if your light don't shine
*******************************
CHORUS:
*******************************
How can you ask a child to be honest and true
When he can only judge what's right by what he sees in you
How can you offer vision yet walk around blind
No you can't see a beacon if it's light don't shine
*******************************
CHORUS:
*******************************
May God's love surround you, may you find a brighter day
May He grant you the peace you seek in every way
God's light burns in each life, in yours and mine
And you can be a beacon if you just let it shine
*******************************
You can be a beacon if you let it shine
You can be a beacon if you let it shine
There's a little light in all of us by God's design
And you can be a beacon if you'll just let it shine
(Times Three)
A baby born in a stable, became the light of this world
The shepherds came to see him, and at his feet they did bow
Well, they ought to see that baby from Bethlehem now
For he could raise the dead with just one touch from his hand
But he gave no thanks to a crowd, and so they nailed Jesus down
Well they ought to see that baby from Bethlehem now
***************************
CHORUS:
You ought to see that baby from Bethlehem now
Soon He'll be coming back riding on a cloud
Once wrapped in swaddling clothes - now dressed in a kingly robe
You ought to see that baby from Bethlehem now
***************************
From Bethlehem to Calvary from Calvary to the throne
Jesus came to pay our sin debt, then He went back home
Before His throne in heaven every knee shall bow
For He's no longer that baby from Bethlehem now
***************************
CHORUS:
(Music and Lyrics by Rogers and HammersteinP
And don't be afraid of the dark.
At the end of a storm is a golden sky
And the sweet silver song of a lark.
Walk on through the wind,
Walk on through the rain,
Tho' your dreams be tossed and blown.
Walk on, walk on with hope in your heart
And you'll never walk alone,
You'll never, ever walk alone.
And you'll never walk alone,
You'll never, ever walk alone.
